Britain’s Abbi Pulling won the 2024 F1 Academy title in Qatar on Saturday.
Pulling only needed to score 18 points in the final four races to secure the championship and she did so at the first time of asking when she finished second behind Dorianne Pin.
The 21-year-old is the second champion of the F1 Academy after Marta Garcia won in the season opener last year.
Drag will receive a fully paid seat in GB3 with Rodin Motorsport for 2025, for being the champion.
“It was a tough season more than most things. Going into the year, I didn’t have anything to win. I’ve been fighting for money in the past and to get next year’s prize,” said Pulling emotionally.
“I know it’s too early to talk about next year, but this makes me very happy and proud.
“I can’t thank everyone who gave me this position – Alpine, Rodin, Rodin Cars, I can’t thank them enough.
“My whole family, everything my father gave for. I’m breathing a sigh of relief.”
The drag started where he needed to from third and passed Ferrari junior Maya Weug in the first corner before making a bold move on the inside to take second.
He couldn’t do anything about runaway winner Pin, who is also in the second round – tune in to Sky Sports F1 at 11am on Sunday.
Pin finished 6.7 seconds ahead of Pull, while Weug took out third place on the podium from Hamda Al Qubaisi.
Chadwick: Drag is a good personality
This year has been a successful season for Pulling as she became the first woman to win a British Formula 4 race at Brands Hatch.
He has been almost flawless according to Andretti driver Jamie Chadwick.
“He’s always there to get home wins and if they don’t, he’s just a bit down,” Chadwick said. Sky Sports.
“We raced against each other in the W-Series. He said when I spoke to him that he has matured a lot.
“He’s very fun, a good personality and he doesn’t take life too seriously. He really enjoys the moment, which I think is important for everyone.
“He has great people around him, including Alice Powell, and a lot of support from Alpine.”
