Northerners across the American continent can see more than just a star-filled sky. They can see the aurora borealis – aka the northern lights – once again on Thanksgiving! On Thursday, November 28, northern countries may be given pink and green colors like in October due to geomagnetic storms. So, will the northern lights be visible to you on Thanksgiving?

What is a Geomagnetic Storm?

Geomagnetic storms are “large-scale disturbances in the Earth’s magnetosphere that occur when there is a strong transfer of energy from the solar wind to the Earth’s atmosphere,” according to the Space Weather Prediction Center.
