In the spirit of Pride month, Starship Technologies is proud to amplify the voices of our Global Ambassadors. These passionate people provide valuable insights into why promoting the LGBTQ+ community is so important in their countries. Their views highlight the importance of collaboration and emphasize what we are doing to foster an inclusive culture throughout our organization.

At Starship, diversity and inclusion are not just an afterthought but fundamental principles that guide all of our actions. We strongly believe that fostering an environment where everyone is valued and respected is non-negotiable. By standing with the LGBTQ+ community, we demonstrate our steadfast commitment to equality and justice, both within and beyond the boundaries of our organization.

Ambassadors: Kadri Salu, Juan Canahui, Zeeshan Chaudhary, Matti Markovaara

Kadri Salu, What does the workplace at Starship Technologies look like to you?

“Working together with all the people in our company makes us feel important and respected by everyone, regardless of who they are or not. Here are some of the main ones I have in mind:

  • Public Commitment to DEI: Our policy, website, and participation in Pride events will clearly demonstrate our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), with a focus on LGBTQ+ inclusion.
  • Employee Support Groups (ERGs): Creating an LGBTQ+ ERG can provide a safe space for employees to connect, share experiences, and advocate for their needs within the company.
  • Fostering Friendship: Training sessions can help foster a culture of friendship, encouraging straight employees to be vocal supporters of their LGBTQ+ peers.
  • Vision and Action: Real commitment to DEI and Pride is essential. Our principles and actions should reflect what we love, actions speak louder than words. “

Juan Canahui, How can partners support their LGBTQ+ colleagues at Starship Technologies, both inside and outside of work?

“Being a friend means helping each other. In this context, supporting a group or community was illegal – even if you are not identified as a member of that group. Here are some steps you can take to stay connected:

  • Educate yourself. Take action to learn more about the history and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. A few additional sources are Trevor Project Resource Center, Library of Congress& Articles of the Human Rights Campaign.
  • Try to do it promote inclusive opportunities for your fellow LGBTQ+ sharing their ideas and skills. Be sure to listen carefully and be open to receiving information. Being a good listener in itself can help people at your workplace feel welcome and supported. Also, try to use common names and pronunciations. Avoid stereotypes based on gender, culture, or family background.
  • Do the right thing if you see your friends being harassed or discriminated against. Speak out against discriminatory statements or practices, and make sure you do so respectfully and through appropriate channels.

By following these steps, you can create a unified, supportive, and equal environment for us to work as One Team and deliver All the Time. “

Zeeshan Chaudhary, What can Starship Technologies do to support LGBTQ+ workers in sectors where being LGBTQ+ is a big issue, especially in the tech industry?

“Supporting an LGBTQ+ colleague in the legal community can be difficult for a company. However, steps can be taken to ensure that they have a positive and representative life. This includes establishing policies to ensure equality and prevent discrimination, maintaining a safe workplace, and reporting confidential information about harassment or discrimination.

Creating safe spaces, such as groups or Slack styles, allow LGBTQ+ employees to connect and support each other. Education and training help to understand different information. Flexible work arrangements, including remote work, are important in areas where LGBTQ+ workers may experience hostility.

These are just a few things that an open source company should do. Additional measures, such as promoting visibility and representation, show LGBTQ+ employees that they are valued and supported, empowering them and the rest of the community.

Matti Markovaara, What message would you like to share with your colleagues around the world at Starship Technologies during Pride month?

“As we celebrate Pride month, let’s take this opportunity to honor and support the LGBTQ+ community. This month is a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, acceptance, and the courage to be ourselves.

Together, we can and have created a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. Let’s continue to promote diversity and celebrate the unique ideas that each of us brings to the table.

Remember, our strength lies in our differences. By accepting each other’s differences, we create an environment that is collaborative, compassionate, and inclusive. Keep shining bright and be proud of who you are! “

Our Global Ambassadors play a vital role in our efforts to promote inclusion and support for the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. They help bridge cultural gaps, provide local information, and act as catalysts for inclusive practices in their fields. Their visibility is important in demonstrating our commitment to diversity and inclusion around the world.

In line with this commitment, we released Pride Bots in all participating schools, working as a company-wide pride team to celebrate together with the LGBTQ+ community. The project seeks to promote inclusive communities, where all feel welcome and encouraged to live up to their true values. By integrating these activities into our operations, we aim to promote cultural change, develop positive employee morals, and build a supportive environment.

Beyond Pride Month, we continue to engage in various initiatives and programs to support our Starshippers of all nations.

This includes:

  • Provide continuous learning opportunities to educate all employees about Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion. These messages are designed to promote empathy, understanding, and effective cooperation within our independent professional practice and referrals.
  • We regularly review and update our policies to ensure they are inclusive and supportive of all employees, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender.
  • Constantly seeking feedback from our employees to identify what we need to improve and ensure that our efforts are making a significant difference. These ideas help us adapt and adapt our processes to meet the needs of different employees.

As we gather to honor Pride month, let’s pause and reflect. Are our efforts really enough, or are we just skimming the surface of meaningful change?

Varieties grow best when handled quickly. Starship is committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equality, and inclusion among our employees and communities. Currently, we have Starshippers from 26 different countries, representing three genders, and four special teams.

Celebrating diversity goes beyond pretty posters. Whether you are a client, partner, or attorney, now is the time to use this moment to make an impression. Together, we can foster a space where authenticity is valued, stories are shared, and vulnerability is met with compassion.
