What was it like to return for Season 2?
For me, it was a very different season because in the first season, it was all green and a big picture of me behind me, standing on the stairs. Now all that is gone. I was in the field. So I felt very different. And the only thing that sounded the same was the Lindon sets where I had worked before. Everything else was new. I used to go down the rabbit hole of Elrond, years ago before I knew I could play him. I always liked some of the choices they made in Legendarium. So I’ve been going down these rabbit holes and they’re fun. I try to avoid them but now I know how fun it is to make your own choices and that’s what I love about Tolkien, everyone has a unique opinion based on what they read. And one idea can be as amazing as another and they can completely contradict each other.
When you play a character for a long time how hard is it to get out of it or is it not that deep?
No, I’m still going out. Yes, it’s like something special. This was the first time I had experienced it. Playing someone and then going back to them is really fun. It’s like dropping something and then picking it up after a while. Although not much time has passed between seasons of this story, I have changed, and the character has also changed. So you start thinking and thinking about where you want them to go in the future. For me, that was something new and fulfilling. There is no final story to think about. It’s like these characters are constantly changing. Our life experiences feed them as the show progresses.
People have been happy with the way you portray Elrond as opposed to the tough guy we see in the movies…
I recently learned the term soft boy. Sounds like Sexy Sauron. I have these earrings that my man wears. And I think Hugo Weaving is an adulterer too. But of course, all the characters we see in The Rings Of Power are all younger than the ones in the movies. All history takes place long ago and many events have to happen before it gets to where it should be. But especially in this season, I wanted Elrond not to get ahead of himself in what he can do at this point because there are things I believe he has to go through to get to the next place. . It’s amazing when you know where your character is going, but not how they’re going to get there. That’s the fun of the show.
Elrond and Durin’s relationship is very interesting. What was your experience working with Owain Arthur?
This is one of my favorite things about the show. I love the bromance between Elrond and Durin and their lies. It was good to explore because of what it means. It’s an elf and a dwarf having a friendship. It’s very difficult because they look at the world in a very different way. And Owen and I like to talk about how they see things differently. We haven’t really given up on that dynamic thing because it’s important. It’s always fun with Durin and it’s great for those in Season 2 because I feel like every time I see Khazad-dûm, I get more excited. Everything he does with the city and his sets is always amazing.
If you weren’t in the role, which Tolkien character would you like to play and why?
I’ve always loved this First Generation hero called Beleg Strongbow who is an amazing Sindarin Elf. And a few sad things happen to him but he is a true Elven hero. I really enjoyed reading about him.

Rings of Power has always had great moments. When you’re on set, what can you do to make your work stand out among all the great pieces?
Visuals help you a lot. Obviously, you don’t want to get lost in them but we’ve talked a lot about the Celebrimbor meeting. The sets are impressive and detailed.
You have a Julliard scholarship. Between your brief appearance in Game of Thrones and your role in The Rings of Power, did you ever expect to be working in a mainstream comic?
(Laughs) No, no. I was obsessed with Lord Of The Rings as a kid. I remember being very interested in… this sounds silly, but it’s true, I’m interested in Elrond and where he came from and his history and stuff. In The Third Age and in Peter Jackson’s films, there are not many elves. With Lothlorien and Galadriel, it seems logical to me because it sounds like Elvendom on the air. So you have this kind of city where people go to seek help and things like that. And it’s really interesting. So I remember being very interested in him and his history. So when I started playing him, and now it
I keep playing him, it feels better.
