Tesla Cybertruck crash leaves 3 dead and 1 seriously injured in California

Three people died and one was seriously injured on Wednesday when a Tesla A Cybertruck crashed and caught fire in northern California, officials said.

Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers said speeding was a factor in the crash, but added that authorities will continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

The occupants of the Cybertruck were returning from “work” at about 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, but Bowers did not say much. A bystander, but driving another vehicle, was able to pull the victim from the Cybertruck.

The official would not release any information about the victims, citing family privacy.

Although responding officers were unable to put out the fire with fire extinguishers, firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Piedmont Fire Chief Dave Brannigan said the speed at which the fire was extinguished meant it was unlikely that the Cybertruck’s large lithium-ion battery would catch fire. He called the incident “more on the lines of a normal car fire.”

Bowers, in response to a question about Cybertruck’s recent recall, said there was “no indication that there was a mechanical problem that caused the crash.”

The Cybertruckwhich has been on sale for nearly a year, has been recalled six times for safety issues, most recently on Nov. 5 because a fault in the power inverter can cause the drive wheels to lose power.

Some memories were written pictures of the rear camera that don’t turn on immediately after switching, trim pieces that can fall off, windshield wipers that can fail, and the wrong font size on warning lights. In April, future vehicles were recalled to fix pedals that could stick to the interior.

The city of Piedmont is about 2.5 miles (4 km) northeast of Oakland.
