The deployment of North Korea is a ‘new stage’ in the war in Ukraine

The European Parliament on Thursday condemned the deployment of North Korean troops to the Russian-Ukraine conflict and accused China of supporting Moscow.

Lawmakers approved a resolution condemning Russia’s use of North Korea and its testing of new ballistic missiles in Ukraine, arguing that “the recent escalation represents a new phase of war and a new threat to European security.”

European Union countries should “increase their military aid to Ukraine, including the provision of aircraft,” long-range weapons such as Taurus missiles and artillery, he said.

Countries supporting Moscow’s war effort should also face additional sanctions, parliament agreed, highlighting China, Belarus and Iran.

Beijing in particular should “end all military aid or dual use that it provides to Russia,” the statement read, adding that “refusal to change course would seriously damage EU-China relations.”
